Pride of the Southland: Logo Redesign

Pride of the Southland is the third oldest university band in America and they asked us to help them with redesigning their logo. The previous logo worked for what they wanted for a long time however, what I wanted to do was to bring it into the 21st century with a modern font and look and feel.

Font: Radley Sans
I landed on this font pretty quickly. I knew I wanted one that was simple in approach but also modern to a typical athletics font. It just felt right when I applied the words and once I nailed the kerning, I definitely knew it was the right one.

LOGO MARK: Drum Major
They really loved the idea of the Jordan logo and wanted the drum major to be able to eventually stand alone in a similar fashion. So after looking at multiple drum major silhouettes, I started to trace over what I thought would work and then I went in to tweak the energy of it. Most of the revisions that came after, pertained to the leg that kicks out. They wanted it to really kick out (version 6) while also making sure the foot itself was as straight and natural as it could be.

LOGO VERSIONS:
The previous logo only had one from what I could tell, so I wanted to give them multiple looks with the new one.

MOCKUPS:
With the mockups below, I really wanted to help them envision this in their space and feel the impact of the new design. So I ended up creating a couple of my mockups with some of their images from our asset bank. The first image shows the new logo, with two versions, and also the previous logo for comparison. From there I placed the logo on a few classic items: a coffee cup, a pennant, koozie, and sticker. And then I closed out on a  wish and a pray with a mockup of a new drum head.

TRUCK MOCKUP:
The UT Bands team wanted to design a truck with the new logo and I insisted to look at it and possibly designing some mockups. So they obliged and allowed us the opportunity to do so. Below is a mockup of what they initially wanted.

SWAG:
As we get pictures of them I will post here what the actual swag items look like in real life. As well as any other thing that the logo goes on that we can get a solid picture of.
